I had a thought that the only thing holding biodiesel back was poor branding. If we could just sex it up, maybe this fuel alternative won’t have to fight such an uphill battle. My early attempts to push this “open source branding” met with little success, but I’m still interested in the idea of communal branding of social causes. Hrm…
I’ve looked at a lot of the other biodiesel logos out there, and I’m fairly certain they all suck. When I created this logo, I was adamant that it should be something that would look as good on the back window of a VW TDI as it would on the side of a biodiesel pump. I think this works.
Here’s an EPS of the logo for anyone who wants to use it (under a CC license).
Thanks blackhound, best logo I’ve seen out there. We’ll use it for sure!!!!
P.S. How about bioethanol?
@Mario I made this logo in and around the time that I became a serious biodiesel convert. At the time that I was knee-deep in biodiesel research, bioethanol just didn’t appear to be the most efficient alternative fuel source. While I’m in favor of any alt.fuel that reduces GHG emissions, I also appreciated the larger life cycle of biodiesel, how it can be sourced, and the resources that it takes to produce. Still, maybe bioethanol deserves some attention.
If you use it, please send photos!
Hi blackhound –
Gorgeous logo! I’ve used it in a yard sign advertising my home-heating conversion to 99% bio. I have a pic – where should I send it?
